Seasons at Myres Castle

Barnquee at Myres Castle

As we settle into 2020, it is now the time to think about what the new decade may bring into each of our lives. For some, it may be a new career, others a new home and for some, a wedding and celebrating their love with their significant other.

So, whether you are already engaged or thinking of proposing to your other half, this is the time to plan ahead and think about which season you would like to tie the knot in. Have you always dreamed of a Scottish Summer’s Day Wedding? Or maybe you haven’t even thought about it yet! Well our team at Myres Castle have been discussing our favourite season for weddings and what we think makes the perfect wedding day. However, to keep things fair, we have excluded winter weddings as we are closed during winter and therefore don’t have much experience of these (sorry!).  Without further ado, here are a breakdown of the seasons and what makes each of them so unique and special.

Spring

Spring symbolises new life and beginnings so what a perfect month for you and your partner to celebrate your everlasting love and begin your new life together? We also love the colours that are associated with spring; yellows, soft blues and blooming pinks. If you are looking to mix and match your colours for your wedding spring is the perfect month to take some inspiration from nature and incorporate pretty and light colours to your wedding. We absolutely adore the concept of individuality of each wedding party so why not take the opportunity to allow your bridesmaids and groomsmen to stand out with their own unique pastel colour.

Spring is also a winner in our eyes when it comes to accommodating your party guests and their schedules. By this time of the year, people are not likely to be jetting off on holiday and have recovered from the financial dip brought on from Christmas and partying over New Year. As the days get longer and the sun starts to shine again, people tend to be more likely to venture out PLUS spring is the optimal time for getting photos as it’s not too bright and not too dark. As the saying goes; ‘Spring showers bring May flowers’ however the cloudier days also provide coverage which is ideal for flawless and unfiltered photos.

So, in short spring wins when it comes to pretty natural colours, accommodating your guest’s schedules and flawless photos!

Summer

Summer weddings are always popular and for good reason too! Despite the unpredictable Scottish weather, you are most likely to get a warm and dry day during the months of June, July and August. Summer days are hard to top indeed, however summer nights are even harder – people want to make the most of the day and during the summer months you will find that you and your guests can enjoy the outdoors until 10pm before the night starts to fall.

Additionally, by being able to make the most of the outdoor space during the summer months, you will be able to plan more creative activities for your guests between meals and the first dance. Myres Castle, is surrounded by 44 acres of private ground so why not take the opportunity and fully maximise this space for you and your guests? We have seen it all here, from board games to 3 legged races and giant Jenga! Make your day as memorable as possible and make the most of the outdoors for sure.

It is important to consider all aspects of planning a wedding, and something which can slip a lot of people’s minds is what is actually in season when it’s your special day? If you are wanting an abundance of bright flowers and cidar, then a summer wedding is the one for you.

So, summer weddings? Great weather? Check. Opportunity to make the most of the outdoors? Check. Fresh fruit and bright flowers? Check. Yes, it’s clear to see why this season tends to top the others, but what about autumn?

Autumn

If you and your significant prefer darker and deeper colours such as bronze, deep purple, reds and emerald greens then an Autumn wedding might be the one for you. Over the years we have seen beautiful brides and handsome grooms incorporate these stunning colours into their wedding theme; whether it be the use of red roses in your bouquet and flower displays or even include dried citrus fruits to decorate centre pieces of your wedding cake!

It can be argued that both winter and summer months can be ‘too intense’. In summer it can be too hot and bright whereas in winter it can be too cold and dark, making autumn a nice even balance of the two! You want to look glowing in all your wedding photos which is why we can all agree autumn is the best time for this as you will still have your summer glow if you went abroad or even soaked up some sun in Scotland!

Although autumn is not the best time for photos (keep reading for this one), the weather isn’t too harsh and still has great light! We have seen some of the most stunning photos produced during the autumn months especially those which are taken out in the gardens and offer the most vibrant and colourful backdrops! Also, autumn evenings tend to be nice and cool and therefore you can still make the most of the outdoors around the fire pits and pizza oven. For us, autumn is the season for fun and mischief.

Even though autumn tends to be a quieter time for weddings, there’s so much opportunity for couples to create such a wonderful day; the weather tends to be mostly dry, you can do so much with colour and it makes a perfect time to get fantastic photos of the outdoors.
